On September 15, 2019, police responded to reports of a naked man firing a gun in the parking lot of a Rodeway Inn on Indiana 933 in South Bend at about 3:45 a.m. Officers searched the motel and found 22-year-old Jenna Lynn Vanhorn inside a room with a fatal gunshot wound. An autopsy determined her death was a homicide.
Investigators with the St. Joseph County Metro Homicide Unit learned a witness had seen a man, identified as Jamie Nathaniel Garner, buck naked and pointing a revolver at Vanhorn while the two yelled at each other. The witness left the room to call for help. A wallet with Garner’s identification and a vehicle registered to him were found at the scene.
Garner, then 45, was arrested on September 25 in Detroit at a relative’s home and charged with murder and a firearm sentencing enhancement. More than three years after the shooting, he pleaded guilty and received a 55-year prison sentence. Did anyone know Jenna or have information about her movements that night?
