Cheryl Lynn Mann, 65, was fatally shot during a late-night attack at the Luida Trailer Park in Marion, Indiana, on Sunday, March 10, 2019. Officers responded about 11:30 p.m. and found Mann and her 30-year-old grandson, Jonathan Lovell, inside a trailer with gunshot wounds. Mann suffered a gunshot to the head and was airlifted to a Fort Wayne hospital, where she later died. Lovell was critically wounded in the leg and arm and taken by ambulance; a teenage boy who had been sleeping in the trailer was unharmed.
Within days investigators arrested two people in connection with the shooting: 32-year-old Christa Kelly, also known as Christa Goins, and 32-year-old William McCarty. Both were charged with murder. Police say the shooting grew out of a dispute the suspects had with Mann’s grandson over the weekend.
