Odie Carrier Jr., 65, was killed after a robbery at his Evansville, Indiana home in November 2018. A United States Air Force veteran and owner of an electronics company, Carrier was found on the floor with a single gunshot wound to his hip after a neighbor reported hearing a gunshot on the night of November 8. He was taken to a local hospital and died of his injuries on November 12.
Investigators determined the shooting followed a planned robbery. Carrier had been communicating by text with 17-year-old Mackayla Scarbrough and had arranged to meet her. Scarbrough entered the home while two accomplices, 18-year-old Connor Johnson and 19-year-old Xzereus Dlamini, waited outside. Police say Johnson later forced entry, shot Carrier with a .22-caliber firearm, and the three fled. A routine traffic stop hours later led to their arrest and recovery of a handgun identified as the weapon used.
All three were charged with murder, robbery, and burglary; later pleas and sentences were reported. Does anyone have information about Carrier’s life in Evansville or the night of November 8 that could shed more light on what happened?
