On the evening of November 6, 2018, 19-year-old Maurtreyviaun Sanders was fatally shot on Marion’s south side. Known as Trey, he had recently graduated from Marion High School and played football and basketball; family described him as a quiet young man who always carried a basketball and who hoped to play college basketball. After being shot, Sanders ran two blocks to a house where his father was working, collapsed into his father’s arms and said he had been shot and that they were trying to rob him.

He was taken to Marion General Hospital and died of wounds that included at least one gunshot to the shoulder and neck area. Marion police later identified two suspects, Lemere Jones and Demetrius Jackson, and in January 2019 both were arrested and charged in Sanders’ death with murder, conspiracy to commit armed robbery, and armed robbery.

Does anyone have information about Sanders’ last movements or the robbery he described?
