Shortly after midnight on Sunday, November 12, 2017, Michigan City police responded to a reported burglary in the 600 block of Spring Street and found Brian Cortez Turner Jr. dead in a bedroom. Brian, known as BJ, was 22 years old; he was born June 30, 1995, lived in Michigan City, and was a father of two. He liked cutting hair, music, and video games, and had recently started working at Steak-N-Shake.
Investigators treated the death as a homicide stemming from a violent home invasion. Detectives processed the scene and interviewed witnesses, and authorities developed probable cause to arrest 22-year-old Joshua Ratliff of Michigan City. Ratliff was taken into custody and charged with murder, held in the La Porte County Jail on $1 million bond pending further proceedings.
If anyone knew Brian or saw activity in the Spring Street area that night, does anyone have information to share?
