On the evening of August 10, 2017, 38-year-old Gustavo Sanchez-Campuzano and his 67-year-old mother, Catalina Lujano-Campuzano, were shot and killed while walking in the 800 block of Eastwich Drive in Lafayette, Indiana. The shooter was identified as Franco Navarrete, the brother-in-law of Gustavo, who confronted the pair during an argument and fired a handgun at close range, then left the scene.
Navarrete was arrested the following day, August 11, 2017, and charged with two counts of murder. His case went to a jury trial, and in January 2019 a jury found him guilty of both killings. A judge later imposed a 120-year prison term; the judge noted that Navarrete called the police on himself after the slayings, which the court considered evidence of some remorse. Gustavo’s brother Misael Sanchez Campuzano read a statement saying the deaths shattered the family.
Did anyone in Lafayette see the family the night of August 10, 2017, or have information about what led to the confrontation?
