DeNiko L. Scott was 22 when he was found dead in the 400 block of South Morton Avenue in Evansville, Indiana, on the morning of May 23, 2017. A neighbor reported seeing a person down and called authorities at 8:10 a.m.; officers discovered Scott with at least one gunshot wound. The Vanderburgh County Coroner’s Office ruled the manner of death a homicide, listing a single gunshot wound to the head as the cause.

Scott, a former Harrison High School basketball standout, was described as a father who enjoyed spending time with his son and was remembered for his sense of humor and loyalty. The Evansville Police Department canvassed the neighborhood and collected evidence, but no arrests have ever been announced and the case grew cold.
