David L. Weedman, a 62-year-old owner of Weedman’s Trash Service and formerly Weedman’s Auto Body, was found dead in his Saint-Croix, Indiana home on March 4, 2017. The body was discovered with a gun and the wound was initially thought to be self-inflicted, but family and friends noted he was left-handed while the firearm was in his right hand. An autopsy on March 7 concluded the gunshot wound was not consistent with a self-inflicted wound, and the death was reclassified as a homicide.
Investigators established Weedman was last seen alive on March 1, 2017, with acquaintance Randal L. Coalter and Coalter’s girlfriend Nicki Anderson at a local bar. A physical altercation between Weedman and Coalter later occurred at Weedman’s home that day. Anderson later testified that Coalter had admitted shooting Weedman in the face. Based on that testimony and other evidence, Randal L. Coalter was arrested on March 21, 2017, and charged with murder.
Anyone who knew Weedman, Coalter, or the events around March 1–4, 2017, in Saint-Croix is asked to share information that could help clarify what happened.
