Shane Breedlove was 41 and a well-known musician and club DJ in Evansville, Indiana when he was shot and killed while walking to his job at KC’s Time Out Lounge & Grill on the evening of July 19, 2015. He was struck on Washington Avenue at about 9:30 p.m., pronounced dead at the scene, and several shell casings were found nearby. His death was ruled a homicide.
Investigators made a major move on August 10, 2015, when Evansville police and SWAT arrested three men: Derrick Murray, Bobby John Handegard and his 19-year-old son Bobby Michael Handegard. Arrest warrants later unsealed alleged a possible motive linked to Breedlove having testified against a business associate of Bobby John Handegard in a prior battery trial. Charges against all three were dropped in October 2015 for lack of sufficient evidence; prosecutors had relied on a teenage girlfriend’s statements, jailhouse recordings and another inmate’s testimony, which did not carry the case forward.
Breedlove’s family, especially his mother, kept up public vigils and calls for justice as the investigation went cold. Does anyone have information about Breedlove’s last evening or about contacts he may have had in July 2015?
