On January 4, 2015, 43-year-old Michelle Lee Blankenship was found shot to death in an apartment building on East Calvert Street in South Bend, Indiana. Robert J. Duke, 46, was also found dead at the scene; investigators described the incident as a double homicide. A suspect known to both victims, Roy Lee Walker, was identified and taken into custody soon after the killings.
Court documents say Walker behaved erratically after the slayings, was found with a rope around his neck, and reportedly admitted involvement in the crimes. Documents further allege Walker attempted to shoot a neighbor but the gun failed to fire, threatened another person while naked and armed with a screwdriver, and fled in a victim’s car. He was charged with two counts of murder, one count of attempted murder, and residential entry.
Blankenship worked as a restaurant manager, most recently at King Gyro’s Restaurant, and is survived by two sons and three grandchildren. Does anyone have information about Michelle, her movements on January 4, 2015, or knowledge that could help clarify what happened that night?
