On the afternoon of January 3, 2015, 23-year-old David Wise was found along a dirt path near the Rails to Trails walkway in Marion, Indiana. An autopsy confirmed he had been fatally shot in the neck. The case went cold for years as investigators pursued leads and interviewed numerous people without resolving the homicide.

In July 2023 the Grant County Prosecutor’s Office announced charges in the long-unsolved killing. Court documents allege a murder-for-hire: prosecutors say Terrence Fetz, then incarcerated, paid Darzell Jones $1,500 to kill Wise in retaliation for Wise reportedly burning a car belonging to Fetz’s brother. Records allege Jones told someone about his plan, phoned Fetz after the shooting, and that Fetz demanded to see Wise’s body before paying.
