On the evening of January 15, 2014, 20-year-old Krystle Lauren Dikes was working a shift stocking shelves at Martin’s Supermarket in the Cobblestone Crossing shopping center in Elkhart, Indiana. Around 10:00 p.m. a gunman entered the store armed with a semi-automatic handgun and a large hunting knife, wandered the aisles, then opened fire and fatally struck Krystle.
The shooter, 22-year-old Shawn Bair, also shot a customer, Rachelle Godfried, and at one point held the store manager at gunpoint. Elkhart police arrived about three minutes after the initial calls; officers engaged the suspect, Bair was struck by police gunfire and died at the scene. Investigators concluded Bair acted alone, that he lived near the supermarket and was a regular customer, and no clear motive was immediately established.
If anyone knew Krystle or witnessed the attack at Martin’s Supermarket that night, please share what you remember.
