Three-year-old Lance Wilson died on Sunday, September 15, 2013, inside his home at the Terrace Acres Mobile Home Park in Michigan City, Indiana, from a single gunshot wound. Authorities described the shooting as occurring during a game in which the child used an imaginary gun while the mother’s live-in boyfriend, 24-year-old Zachariah Grisham, handled a real, loaded handgun that discharged, fatally wounding Lance.
Grisham was taken into custody by the La Porte County Sheriff’s Department and charged with neglect of a dependent and reckless homicide. Investigators said they did not believe the shooting was intentional and attributed the death to reckless actions. The family has spoken of profound grief and a desire for justice.
If anyone knew Lance or has information about what happened that day, please share details with the La Porte County Sheriff’s Office.
