On July 7, 2014, 49-year-old Michael J. Hall was found dead inside a residence on the 6100 block of Patoka Lake Drive in Indianapolis alongside 46-year-old DeAnna Brooks. Officers arrived about 3:00 p.m., encountered a running vehicle in the attached garage and reported high carbon monoxide levels in the home. Investigators say Hall had sustained a gunshot wound to the head; Brooks showed no visible trauma and authorities suspected carbon monoxide poisoning as the cause of her death.

Detectives initially treated the scene as a possible murder-suicide and believed evidence indicated the events occurred inside the home. No outside suspects were reported sought and no arrests were made following the discovery.
