Robert G. Butler Jr., 22, was fatally shot in the early hours of December 11, 2022, inside an apartment in the 4600 block of Brentwood Avenue in Independence, Missouri. A Central High School graduate with an associate’s degree in Engineering from Lincoln University, he taught Pre-K, ran his own clothing line and was a father to a young daughter.

As most guests were leaving, an 18-year-old man identified as Vyshon D. Wilson allegedly shot Butler multiple times with an AR-style firearm, leaving him collapsed in the apartment entryway. Witnesses identified the shooter, and photos taken at the event were used to link Wilson to the attack. Wilson reportedly fled by jumping off a back deck and left his cell phone behind.

An arrest warrant was issued for Vyshon D. Wilson two days after the shooting; he was charged with second-degree murder and two counts of armed criminal action. Authorities asked the public for help locating him, noting concern that he might be aided by family or friends. Have any readers seen or heard anything about the Brentwood Avenue party or the people who were there that night?
