On December 8, 2022, deputies in Butler County, Missouri, responded to reports of numerous shots fired at a home on Highway AA near B Highway, just outside Poplar Bluff. When they arrived around midday they were confronted by an armed man outside the residence; deputies fired and fatally wounded him. He was later identified as 45-year-old Justin Morgan.

A safety sweep of the home turned up two more bodies inside with apparent gunshot wounds. Those victims were identified as 76-year-old Norman G. Morgan and his 47-year-old son, Timothy Allen Morgan. Investigators believe Justin fatally shot his father and brother before officers reached the property. The Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control took over the investigation of the officer-involved shooting and the double homicide; three Butler County deputies were placed on paid administrative leave.

Norman was remembered as a veteran who served in the Veterans of Foreign Wars and enjoyed hunting and coaching youth sports; Timothy was noted for his artistic talents and love of the outdoors. If anyone has information about the events at the Highway AA residence on December 8, 2022, please share what is known.
