On the evening of October 12, 2022, a shooting at O’Donnell Park in Grandview, Missouri, left 34-year-old Orson Treyce Roth III dead. Officers arrived about 5:20 p.m. and found Roth and another man who had been shot; Roth was pronounced dead at the scene and the companion was transported to a hospital with serious injuries after being shot eight times.

Witnesses reported two men running from the park immediately after the gunfire. The Kansas City Police Department deployed a helicopter and the Grandview investigation drew assistance from the Lee’s Summit Police Department and the Jackson and Cass County sheriff’s offices, but the suspects eluded capture. As of late October 2022, no arrests had been announced and investigators urged anyone with information to come forward.
