On the afternoon of August 27, 2022, 28-year-old Ashton Christine Alexander was killed inside her home on East Louise Avenue in Clinton, Missouri, after a domestic dispute. A neighbor’s surveillance audio recorded gunfire at about 5:00 p.m.; Ashton was found by officers in the living room just inside the front door with multiple gunshot wounds, including at least seven shots to the face at close range. Gunpowder burns and damage to a metal vent under her head suggested she was lying on her back when at least one shot was fired. Four shell casings were recovered near her body and five more were found in a kitchen trash can.

Neighbors reported that Ashton’s husband, 27-year-old Ryan Wayne Alexander, had left the house in a hurry, returned soon after, and later re-entered before the shots. He placed a 911 call about 6:15 p.m. and was arrested; officers noted a strong smell of alcohol and he reportedly told jail staff he had been drinking vodka and beer earlier. The Henry County Prosecuting Attorney charged him with first-degree murder and armed criminal action, and he was held without bond.
