On June 17, 2022, 20-year-old Preston Jones was fatally shot inside his family’s Hazelwood, Missouri apartment on the 7600 block of Hazelcrest Drive. He was asleep in his bedroom when a bullet came through the window and struck him; he died in the arms of his older brother Princeton as other family members watched.

Hazelwood Police responded about 3:00 a.m. Officers described a chaotic scene and said witnesses at the scene were initially uncooperative. Police arrested two of Preston’s brothers, Princeton and Esau Jones, that night — for refusing to identify themselves and for outstanding warrants — but those arrests were not for the homicide. Detectives have pursued multiple leads, including the possibility the shooter or shooters were juveniles, and as of the latest update no one has been identified or charged in Preston’s killing.

Preston’s mother, Precious Jones, has started a nonprofit focused on addressing violence and poverty in his memory. If anyone knew Preston, was in the Hazelcrest Drive area that night, or has information that could help solve this case, please come forward.
