St. Louis police were alerted to a shooting in the North City neighborhood just after midnight on April 14, 2021. Officers responded to the 1500 block of McLaran Avenue, a residential area near the Hall Street corridor. Upon arrival, they discovered a male victim lying in the street, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The man, who was pronounced dead at the scene by first responders, was later identified as 24-year-old Trevonte Laray Spencer.
