On the night of July 4, 2020, police in Kansas City, Missouri, responded to reports of a shooting in the southern part of the city. Officers arrived at the scene near the intersection of 69th Street and Prospect Avenue around 11:45 p.m. Upon arrival, they discovered a male victim lying unresponsive on the sidewalk near Prospect Avenue and Gregory Boulevard. Emergency medical personnel pronounced the man dead at the scene. The victim was identified as 37-year-old Charles Hampton.
