On the evening of November 23, 2016, Arthur L. Mourning, a 49-year-old man, was at his home in Kansas City, Missouri, near East 49th Street and Bellefontaine Avenue. A knock at his door around 5:50 p.m. led to a fatal encounter. When Mourning answered, he was confronted by an individual who robbed him at gunpoint and then shot him. He was transported to a local hospital where he died from his injuries hours later, just a day before his family was expecting him for Thanksgiving dinner.
