A couple experiencing homelessness are senselessly killed On the night of December 18, 2016, 27-year-old Lindsay McCollum and 51-year-old Eddie "Tennessee" Tate were tragically shot and killed while living in a makeshift shelter in San Francisco’s Mission District. The two victims, both homeless, were found at the corner of 16th Street and South Van Ness Avenue, where they had been sleeping inside a wooden box. The assailant approached them and fired multiple gunshots, leading to their deaths.
McCollum was declared dead at the scene, while Tate succumbed to his injuries shortly after being transported to the hospital.
Lindsay McCollum’s death deeply affected her family, especially her mother, Carrie, who has worked tirelessly to keep her daughter's memory alive and seek justice for her murder. Lindsay had faced challenges with addiction and homelessness, but her mother emphasized that she was a kind, talented individual who loved animals and enjoyed activities like playing piano and reading during her childhood. To date, the case remains unsolved, despite the police offering a significant reward, which has been increased over the years, reaching $200,000. The families and community continue to hope that someone will come forward with information that can bring closure and justice to those affected by this heartbreaking crime.
