On the evening of December 7, 2019, a burst of gunfire shattered the night in Baltimore, Maryland, leaving a 42-year-old, Black / African American man, Purnell Murphy, dead. The fatal encounter unfolded at approximately 8:01 p.m. in the 1100 block of East North Avenue. When the shooting ceased, Murphy had been fatally wounded in what was part of a double shooting incident that also resulted in a woman suffering a graze wound.
