Gladys Tordil, a 44-year-old chemistry teacher, was fatally shot on May 5, 2016, in the parking lot of High Point High School in Beltsville, Maryland. She was there to pick up her two daughters, who were students at the school. Her estranged husband, Eulalio Tordil, a 62-year-old employee of the Federal Protective Service, confronted her as she sat in her SUV. A man who witnessed the confrontation and attempted to intervene was shot and wounded before Eulalio Tordil shot his wife multiple times.
