In the early hours of May 12, 2011, Abebayheu Jagiso, a 49-year-old man of Ethiopian descent, was working his shift as a clerk at a 7-Eleven in Fort Washington, Maryland. The overnight quiet was shattered when two masked individuals entered the convenience store in what appeared to be an armed robbery. During the commission of the crime, Jagiso was shot.
