In the city of New Orleans, a 51-year-old Caucasian man named Michael Bush was fatally shot on the evening of January 12, 2016. The incident occurred in the 2700 block of Washington Avenue, a grim setting for the violence that unfolded. Bush was one of two victims who were shot in quick succession in the same area that evening, a reflection of a period of heightened gun violence in the city.
Law enforcement officials investigating the double homicide identified 31-year-old Earl Simmons as the individual responsible for both fatalities. In a coordinated effort, the New Orleans Police Department and the U.S. Marshals located and arrested Simmons at a residence.
