Francesco "Frankie Yale" Ioele, a notorious Brooklyn gangster, met a violent end on July 1, 1928, at the age of 35. Yale was driving his Lincoln automobile along 44th Street in Brooklyn when he was ambushed by a black sedan. The assailants fired multiple shots into Yale's car, using both pistols and a sawed-off shotgun.
