Wesley Aaron Devault, a 36-year-old healthcare worker from San Diego, tragically lost his life on January 21, 2022, in a murder-suicide incident in Santee, California. Devault, who was a devoted father and a surgical technologist, was visiting his girlfriend of six months at her home on Diamondback Drive. His girlfriend was separated but still living with her estranged husband, Daniel Wayne Isaac, to save on expenses.
On the night of the incident, Isaac, who had been drinking heavily, shot Devault multiple times in the garage of the residence. Isaac then fled the scene in his vehicle.
The San Diego County Sheriff's Department responded to the initial shooting report and found Devault with multiple gunshot wounds. Shortly after, deputies located Isaac's vehicle a block away and attempted to approach him. However, Isaac shot himself before the deputies could reach him. The medical examiner confirmed that Isaac died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, and his death was ruled a suicide. The investigation revealed that Isaac and Devault were acquainted, but the exact motive behind the shooting remained under investigation.
