On November 9, 2021, Gabriel Lozano, a 35-year-old resident of Hemet, California, was tragically shot and killed. The incident occurred early in the morning, around 5:58 a.m., when deputies from the Hemet Station responded to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon in the 26400 block of Columbia Street in unincorporated Hemet. Upon arrival, they found Lozano in front of a residence, suffering from a gunshot wound.
Despite receiving emergency medical aid and being transported to a nearby hospital for emergency surgery, Lozano succumbed to his injuries later that day.
The investigation into Lozano's death quickly led to the identification and arrest of a suspect. Kelvin Smith, a 29-year-old man from Hemet, was apprehended later that same day. He was subsequently booked into the Smith Correctional Facility in Banning on suspicion of murder.
