Savannah Rae Theberge, a 26-year-old mother from Utah, was a "good girl" who was very close with her family, according to her mother. Originally from Augusta, Georgia, Savannah was living in West Jordan, Utah, where she worked for FedEx and was raising her 4-year-old son. Her family said she had plans to eventually move back home to Georgia. In late January 2021, Savannah told her mother, Enyaw Taylor-Theberge, that she had just gotten engaged to a man named Raymond Michael Weber and was traveling to California to meet his family. Her mother was alarmed, as she knew Savannah had a "bad experience" with Weber in the past.

On the morning of January 30, 2021, police in Vacaville, California, received a call at about 12:42 a.m. regarding a disturbing social media livestream. The video reportedly showed a man, later identified as Weber, inside an apartment holding a handgun over the motionless bodies of two females. Savannah’s mother saw the livestream and recognized her daughter by her tattoos and features. Officers responded to the Rocky Hill Veterans Apartments, a complex for formerly homeless veterans and low-income families, and found Weber barricaded inside.

An hourslong standoff followed, during which police evacuated surrounding apartments. After negotiations failed, officers deployed chemical agents and distraction devices before entering the apartment at approximately 8:32 a.m. They found Weber hiding inside and, after a brief struggle where an officer used a stun gun, took him into custody. Inside the apartment, police discovered the bodies of Savannah Theberge and a 15-year-old girl, whose identity was not released at her family's request.

Raymond Michael Weber, 29, of Sacramento, was arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree murder. At the time of his arrest, Weber was already wanted on an outstanding warrant for felonies that included domestic battery and assault with a deadly weapon. He also had charges pending in Utah for an incident the previous summer, in which he allegedly assaulted a man who was visiting Savannah at her apartment.

Savannah’s death came just a week before what would have been her 27th birthday. Her family started a fundraiser to bring her body back to Georgia for a memorial service so she could be laid to rest in her home state. As of February 2021, the case against Raymond Weber was proceeding through the Solano County court system.
