Oscar Carmona, a 22-year-old resident of Azusa, California, was tragically killed on June 1, 2019. According to the Los Angeles County medical examiner-coroner records, Carmona was fatally shot in the head while walking in the 5300 block of Rockvale Avenue. The incident occurred around 11:15 p.m., when local residents reported hearing gunshots and seeing someone lying in the street.
Upon arrival, Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies found Carmona and pronounced him dead at the scene at 11:26 p.m.
Investigators believe that Carmona was shot while walking under high-tension power lines in an area where nursery plants were being grown. Although Carmona lived in another part of Azusa, he had a friend who resided near the shooting location. The investigation revealed that Carmona's death might be gang-related, as friends at the scene mentioned that he "got caught slippin'," a term used to describe being caught off guard. Despite these insights, the authorities did not have a suspect description at the time and urged anyone with information to contact the sheriff's Homicide Bureau or Crime Stoppers to remain anonymous.
As of now, there have been no arrests or suspects publicly identified in connection with Carmona's murder.
