Ceddrick Newton, a 23-year-old resident of Hemet, California, tragically lost his life on November 15, 2018, following a violent altercation in a residential neighborhood. The incident occurred around 4:15 p.m. in the 1500 block of Sunnybank Drive. According to reports, a fight broke out between two individuals, escalating to the point where Newton was shot.
He was immediately rushed to Hemet Valley Hospital with CPR in progress but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival.
The Hemet Police Department quickly launched an investigation into the shooting. They identified and arrested two suspects in connection with Newton's death. Darell Longshore, a 20-year-old from San Jacinto, was apprehended on suspicion of murder, two counts of attempted murder, a gun enhancement, and violation of probation. Longshore was on probation for a previous conviction involving possession of a controlled substance while armed with a gun. His bail was set at $1 million. The second suspect, Ferron Berry, also 20 years old and from Hemet, was arrested on suspicion of being an accessory to the crime, with his bail set at $10,000.
The investigation revealed that Longshore and Newton had an undisclosed conflict that culminated in the fatal shooting. Several other individuals were present during the incident but were not injured. Berry was accused of assisting Longshore in fleeing the scene after the shooting. The Hemet Police Department's investigation into the case remained active and ongoing, with officials urging anyone with additional information or video evidence to come forward.
This tragic event not only highlighted the dangers of escalating conflicts but also underscored the importance of community cooperation in solving violent crimes. The arrests of Longshore and Berry brought some measure of justice for Newton's family and friends, although the pain of their loss undoubtedly persisted. The legal proceedings following the arrests were closely watched by the community, as they sought closure and accountability for the senseless act of violence that claimed the life of a young man.
