Johnny Hausman, a 24-year-old resident of Rancho Cucamonga, was tragically shot and killed on the night of September 6, 2018, in Rialto, California. The incident occurred behind a business located in the 200 block of West Foothill Boulevard. Hausman was found in an alley around 11:30 p.m. and succumbed to his injuries shortly after. The Rialto Police Department responded to the scene and immediately initiated a murder investigation.
The investigation into Hausman's death was extensive
and spanned nearly two years. Detectives identified Shawn Monaco, a 42-year-old resident of Riverton, Utah, as a person of interest early in the investigation. Monaco had moved to Utah shortly after the incident. After gathering sufficient evidence, the Rialto Police Department obtained an arrest warrant for Monaco. On August 18, 2020, Special Agents with the United States Marshals Service, Regional Fugitive Task Force, located Monaco at his place of employment in Utah and arrested him without incident. He was subsequently booked into the Salt Lake County Jail, where he awaited extradition to San Bernardino County.
Monaco was extradited to San Bernardino County on November 12, 2020, and booked into the West Valley Detention Center. He faced charges of murder with malice aforethought, as well as multiple firearm-related charges, including intentionally discharging a firearm causing great bodily injury and death. Monaco's bail was set at $2,000,000, and he remained in custody as the legal proceedings continued.
The case against Monaco highlighted the collaborative efforts of local and federal law enforcement agencies in bringing a suspect to justice. The Rialto Police Department released Monaco's booking photo and urged anyone with additional information about the murder to come forward. The investigation and subsequent arrest underscored the commitment of law enforcement to solving violent crimes and ensuring that perpetrators are held accountable for their actions.
