On May 11, 2018, the body of 25-year-old Tariq Alsumiri was discovered in an orchard near the intersection of Oakmore and Cartmill in Tulare, California. The Tulare County Sheriff's Office initiated a homicide investigation immediately upon the discovery. An autopsy conducted on May 15, 2018, revealed that Alsumiri had died from multiple gunshot wounds to the upper torso.
This tragic incident prompted a thorough investigation by the Violent Crimes Unit of the Tulare County Sheriff's Office.
As the investigation progressed, detectives gathered evidence that led to the arrest of two suspects: Kirk Muro, 36, of Visalia, and Melissa Acuna, 44, of Tulare. Both individuals were apprehended in mid-June 2018. Muro was arrested in Visalia, while Acuna was taken into custody in Tulare. The evidence collected by the detectives linked both suspects to the murder of Tariq Alsumiri. Following their arrests, Muro and Acuna were booked at the Tulare County Sheriff's Department Pre-Trial Facility on charges of murder.
