On the evening of July 21, 2017, 17-year-old Abraham Rubio was tragically shot and killed in Lamont, California. The incident occurred around 8:02 p.m. when deputies from the Kern County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to the 8100 block of Paradise Road following reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, they found Rubio suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to Kern Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries shortly after.
The investigation revealed that Rubio had been involved in an argument with Jose Montano earlier that day. This confrontation escalated, leading to a premeditated attack on Rubio later that evening.
The investigation into Rubio's death led to the arrest of three individuals: Juan Montano, Jose Montano, and Giovanni Jasso. The three men were charged with first-degree murder, with additional charges related to gang activity and the use of firearms. According to court documents, the Montano brothers and Jasso had planned the attack, lying in wait for Rubio near his home. Surveillance footage captured the trio repeatedly passing by the residence before the shooting. On the night of the murder, Juan Montano approached Rubio and shot him three times, resulting in his death.
