According to the Los Angeles County coroner's records, Miranda was shot and subsequently succumbed to his injuries. The incident occurred in the early morning hours at Baldwin Mini Park, where he was found suffering from a gunshot wound.
Despite being transported to a nearby hospital, Miranda died 11 days later due to the severity of his injuries.
The investigation into Miranda's death led to significant developments. Authorities connected Jorge Rosales, a 44-year-old man from Hemet, to the fatal shooting. Rosales was arrested on April 15, 2017, following a pursuit through several cities after he was reported brandishing a firearm at a residence. Additionally, Rosales was implicated in another fatal shooting that occurred on April 11, 2017, involving a woman named Christine Ramos, whose body was found in a car on the 10 Freeway in El Monte.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, El Monte Police Department, California Highway Patrol, and San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department collaborated on the investigation. Rosales was charged with two counts of first-degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon, and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person. He was held on a $6,135,000 bail at the San Bernardino County Jail, pending transfer to the Los Angeles County Inmate Reception Center. The investigation into the crimes continued as detectives worked to gather more evidence and understand the motives behind the shootings.
