Hijinio Jimenez Gonzalez, a 22-year-old Latino, was tragically shot and killed on May 9, 2016, in South El Monte, California. The incident occurred at Baby Blue Fashion, where Jimenez Gonzalez was employed. According to reports, a man on a bicycle approached the business around 8:23 a.m. and requested Jimenez Gonzalez to come outside. Upon stepping out, the man, identified as Leonel Xotoy, pulled out a revolver and shot Jimenez Gonzalez multiple times.
The victim's coworkers, alarmed by the gunfire, rushed outside and managed to subdue Xotoy, holding him until deputies arrived. Jimenez Gonzalez was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after the shooting.
The investigation revealed that Xotoy, a 31-year-old Latino from South El Monte, was arrested on suspicion of murder and subsequently booked into jail. His arraignment was scheduled for May 12, 2016, at the Los Angeles County Superior Court's Pomona Courthouse. Authorities were initially uncertain about the relationship between Xotoy and Jimenez Gonzalez. However, it was suggested that the victim might have been involved with a coworker who had children with Xotoy. This coworker reportedly had an "on-again, off-again" relationship with Xotoy, which may have been a factor in the motive behind the shooting.
Jimenez Gonzalez's family, devastated by the loss, initiated an online fundraiser to collect $7,000 to cover the costs of transporting his body to Mexico for burial. The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department urged anyone with additional information about the shooting to come forward, emphasizing the importance of community assistance in solving such cases. The tragic death of Hijinio Jimenez Gonzalez underscores the senseless violence that can erupt from personal conflicts and the profound impact it has on families and communities.
