The incident occurred at the Shadow Ridge Apartments on Barnard Drive, a complex designated for former foster children who have aged out of the system. Jordan was fatally shot by his roommate, Calvin Glass Jr., who was also 18 at the time. The two had been living together in a transitional housing program and had been experiencing ongoing conflicts over the cleanliness of their shared
apartment. These disputes had escalated to the point where both individuals had requested to be relocated due to their inability to get along.
On the day of the incident, tensions between Jordan and Calvin reached a breaking point. Calvin Glass Jr. confessed to shooting Jordan, as well as another individual who sustained non-life-threatening injuries. The altercation that led to the shooting was reportedly fueled by accusations of theft and mutual paranoia between the roommates. Jordan's foster mother, Michelle Zambrana, who had cared for him for over a year, revealed that Jordan had been planning to move out of the apartment in mid-August, just weeks after the fatal encounter.

In March 2016, he pleaded guilty to these charges and was subsequently sentenced to 21 years in state prison.
