Travis Michael Thommarson, a 25-year-old resident of King City, California, tragically lost his life on May 1, 2015. He was found dead from gunshot wounds on the 400 block of Second Street in King City. Paramedics declared him dead at the scene at approximately 11 p.m. that night. Thommarson was sitting inside a car with his friend, 20-year-old Carlos Felipe Camacho, when a gunman approached and opened fire.
Camacho, who was also shot, managed to survive and was taken to Mee Memorial Hospital before being transferred to Natividad Medical Center in serious condition.
The investigation into Thommarson's death revealed that his murder was part of a series of violent incidents in South Monterey County over that weekend. These incidents were believed to be gang-related and retaliatory in nature. Detectives connected Thommarson's murder to other shootings in the area, including a triple shooting in Greenfield and another murder in King City. The violence was thought to be in response to the killing of 20-year-old Antonio Mendez in a King City trailer park earlier that year.
Despite the efforts of law enforcement, no arrests were made in connection with Thommarson's murder. Witnesses reported seeing two men in dark hoodies fleeing the scene, but their identities remained unknown. The Monterey County Sheriff's Office, along with the California Highway Patrol and the Probation Department, increased patrols in the area in an attempt to curb the violence and bring the perpetrators to justice. However, the case remains unsolved, and Thommarson's family continues to seek answers and justice for his untimely death.
