Dennis Derr, a 52-year-old Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) detective, was found dead on November 27, 2014, in the parking lot of a Walmart in Palmdale, California. His death was ruled a suicide, as he died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Derr had been a veteran of the LAPD for 17 years and was working in the Van Nuys division, specializing in sexual assault cases. The circumstances surrounding his death were deeply troubling and involved serious allegations of misconduct.
