Anthony Hermosillo, a 27-year-old Latino, was fatally shot on Sunday, August 22, 2010, in the 5200 block of Banewell Avenue in Vincent, California. According to Los Angeles County coroner's records, authorities received a call about shots fired around 6:15 p.m. When police arrived at the scene, they found Hermosillo in his parked car with gunshot wounds.
He was immediately taken to County-USC Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries a short time later.
The investigation into Hermosillo's death revealed that while he was being transported to the hospital, Covina police stopped a car near Enid Avenue and Arrow Highway. Inside the vehicle, they found Michael Velez, a 30-year-old Latino, who also had gunshot wounds. Paramedics were called, but Velez was pronounced dead at the scene. Witnesses reported that the two men were shooting at each other. Investigators believe that Hermosillo shot Velez, but another individual shot Hermosillo. The third assailant was described as a male Latino. Despite the detailed accounts from witnesses, no arrests have been made in connection with the case.
The case remains unsolved, and the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department continues to seek information from the public. Detective Ron Duval, who is handling the investigation, has urged anyone with information about the incident to come forward. The lack of arrests and the involvement of multiple shooters have complicated the investigation, leaving many questions unanswered about the circumstances leading to the fatal encounter between Hermosillo and Velez.
