In Baltimore’s South Baltimore area, violence erupted on the 300 block of South Bruce Street near McHenry Street on January 24, 2017, leaving a man gravely wounded and the neighborhood shaken by how quickly the encounter turned brutal. Jamil Owens, 40, a Black man, was found suffering from both gunshot and stab wounds and was rushed to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in critical condition, where doctors fought to keep him alive.
