Mickel Elijha Burrell-Baker, a 25-year-old African American male, tragically lost his life on July 9, 2021, in Belle Glade, Florida. Mickel was fatally shot in front of a home on Southwest Avenue H. The incident occurred around 3:30 p.m. when Mickel stepped out of the house and into the front yard, where he overheard an argument between two men. Moments later, shots were fired, and Mickel was struck and killed.
The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene and found Mickel deceased.
The investigation quickly led to the arrest of Tie'noriss Brown, a 19-year-old male from West Palm Beach. Brown was charged with first-degree murder, shooting into an occupied dwelling, and discharging a firearm in public. According to the arrest report, Brown had rented a Nissan Versa, which was found near the crime scene with its driver's side door open and the engine running. Witnesses reported that Brown had left the scene after an initial argument and returned later armed with a rifle. He was apprehended after investigators found a car key compatible with the Nissan in a relative's home in the same neighborhood.
The motive behind the shooting remains unclear, and it is not known whether Mickel was the intended target or a bystander caught in the crossfire. Brown is being held without bail at the Palm Beach County Jail, and the state Office of Criminal Conflict and Civil Regional Counsel is representing him in the legal proceedings. The case has drawn significant attention in the community, highlighting the ongoing issues of gun violence and the need for justice for victims like Mickel Elijha Burrell-Baker.
