The incident occurred late at night on Southeast Second Avenue, where St. Louis was found with multiple gunshot wounds. Despite being rushed to Delray Medical Center, he succumbed to his injuries. The investigation revealed that the shooting stemmed from a dispute between St.
Louis and a 15-year-old boy named Dieukenson Mirtil, who was once considered a close friend of the victim.
The altercation reportedly began over the return of personal items, escalating to violence when Mirtil shot St. Louis. Before losing consciousness, St. Louis managed to identify his attacker as 'DK,' a nickname for Mirtil. The police investigation quickly led to Mirtil's arrest, with evidence including a .380-caliber handgun found in his room, matching the shell casings at the crime scene. Additionally, a wallet containing identification for St. Louis and his mother was discovered on the roof of Mirtil's residence.
Mirtil was charged with second-degree murder with a firearm and armed robbery. During his trial, he expressed remorse, apologizing to St. Louis' family and acknowledging the gravity of his actions. In February 2024, Circuit Judge Scott Suskauer sentenced Mirtil to 25 years in prison for each count, to be served concurrently.
