The incident occurred around 7:30 p.m. in the 3200 block of S. Highway 314A. Hofacker, who was walking with a friend, was approached by a vehicle driven by Jennifer Sue Hill. Hill, perceiving a threat, mistakenly identified Hofacker as someone else and shot him in the head.
Despite being taken to Ocala Regional Medical Center, Hofacker succumbed to his injuries the following day.
