Crystal, along with her husband Raymond Mark Cline, was found deceased in a swampy area behind their home. The discovery was made by deputies from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office following a tip-off about a woman attempting to sell a truck for a suspiciously low price.
The truck belonged to the Clines, and the woman, Amberlyn Nichols, was later identified as a key figure in the investigation.
The investigation revealed that Crystal and Raymond Cline were murdered in their sleep by Todd Michael Jackson, who was motivated by a financial dispute. Jackson claimed that the Clines owed him $30,000, which led him to commit the heinous act. On the night of the murder, Jackson entered the couple's bedroom and shot them both in the head. After the murders, Jackson enlisted the help of his stepdaughter, Amberlyn Nichols, and her boyfriend, Larry James Walters Jr., to dispose of the bodies. The trio used a furniture dolly to transport the bodies from the house to the swamp behind the property.
The case quickly progressed with the arrest of Todd Michael Jackson, who was charged with first-degree murder. Amberlyn Nichols and Larry James Walters Jr. were charged as accessories to the crime. All three suspects were denied bond.
