Rudolph Rehm, an 84-year-old white male, tragically lost his life on December 23, 2018, in Fort Pierce, Florida. The incident occurred in a quiet retirement community in northern St. Lucie County. Rudolph Rehm was visiting his daughter, 58-year-old Renee Holland, at her home when the tragic events unfolded. Renee Holland, also a white female, was in the process of leaving her abusive husband, Mark Holland, a 53-year-old white male.
The situation escalated into a horrific act of violence when Mark Holland shot and killed both Rudolph Rehm and Renee Holland before turning the gun on himself.
The St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office received multiple 911 calls reporting gunshots and screaming from the residence. Upon arrival, deputies found Rudolph Rehm and Renee Holland deceased from gunshot wounds inside the home. Mark Holland was found alive but severely injured from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries on Christmas night.
Investigations revealed that Mark Holland had a history of domestic violence. He had been arrested in Indian River County in August 2018 for domestic abuse against Renee Holland, but the case was dropped due to her lack of cooperation with the authorities. This tragic incident marked the seventh domestic violence-related death in St. Lucie County in 2018.
The community was deeply affected by the tragedy, highlighting the severe impact of domestic violence. St. Lucie County Sheriff Ken Mascara emphasized the importance of seeking help and utilizing available resources for victims of domestic violence. The Sheriff's Office had responded to 648 domestic violence calls in 2018, and the local Safe Space hotline received over 2,000 calls from victims along the Treasure Coast.
