On August 16, 2018, 28-year-old Christine Giles, a white female from Seminole, Florida, was found unresponsive in a travel trailer parked outside a residence in Largo, Florida. Deputies from the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office arrived at the scene around 11:14 p.m. and pronounced her deceased at approximately 11:22 p.m. Christine Giles had suffered multiple gunshot wounds, leading to her tragic death.
The investigation revealed that Christine Giles was in the travel trailer with her
boyfriend, 32-year-old Nathaniel Yates, and another individual, 61-year-old Wesley Warn. During the encounter, Yates became agitated and threatened Warn with a .380 caliber handgun before turning the weapon on Christine Giles and shooting her once. Yates fled the scene but returned shortly after and shot Christine Giles multiple times, resulting in her death.
Witnesses informed detectives that Christine Giles and Nathaniel Yates had been dating for several months. Their relationship had previously ended when Yates threatened Giles with violence, but they had resumed dating at the time of the incident. Following the shooting, Yates was arrested less than six hours later for an unrelated incident. He was found inside a truck at a job site, under the influence of an unknown controlled substance. During his arrest, Yates exhibited violent behavior, including kicking an emergency room nurse and a police officer.
Nathaniel Yates was subsequently charged with first-degree murder and aggravated assault in connection with Christine Giles' death. He remains in custody as the investigation continues.
