Chantill Harrison, a 39-year-old African American woman from Fort Myers, Florida, tragically lost her life on November 14, 2017. She was found with multiple stab wounds inside a home near the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. and Towles St. in Fort Myers. The incident occurred during a domestic dispute with her then-boyfriend, Freddie Harris.
Freddie Harris, who was 51 years old at the time, was arrested following a 45-minute standoff with police.
During the altercation, Harris stabbed Chantill Harrison 22 times while she lay in bed. Her young child was present in the room during the attack. After the stabbing, Harris armed himself with a rifle and pointed it at the arriving deputies, leading to a tense standoff before he eventually surrendered.
Harris was charged with second-degree murder, child abuse, and aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer. In May 2019, he was sentenced to life in prison for the murder of Chantill Harrison. Additionally, he received a five-year prison sentence for child abuse and credit for time served for the aggravated assault charges. The case highlighted the severe consequences of domestic violence and the tragic loss of Chantill Harrison, a mother and member of the Fort Myers community.
